MASKED | ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
"Norma Jeane Mortensen was acutely aware of what a Hollywood creation 'Marilyn Monroe' was, and of the differences between her private self and the woman she played onscreen and in public. Author pal Truman Capote once wrote that, after a lunch together, Marilyn went to the powder room and stayed so long that he went in to find her. When he discovered her in front of the mirror and asked what she'd been doing, she replied, 'looking at her.'"
I made this painting as a late birthday gift for my father because he always has been a fan of my art. It's been a really long time since I last painted and I guess I shouldn't really expect much from myself since I didn't practice. I'm not completely happy since some people didn't recognize that the face that was split in half was Marilyn Monroe's. However, I'm still happy to share my art with anyone who'd care to read.
